Big-Box Bestselling Book Battle Begins

Forgive the alliteration. Wal-Mart is squaring off against Amazon.com in a price war that has brought new books by best-selling author like Stephen King and Sarah Palin (OK, she doesn’t have a best-seller yet, but will soon) below the $10 mark.

For now at least, Wal-Mart is dropping prices only for orders at its website, Walmart.com, not in physical stores. From the WSJ:

“If there is going to be a ‘Wal-Mart of the Web,’ it is going to be Walmart.com,” said Walmart.com CEO Raul Vazquez in an interview. “Our goal is to be the biggest and most visited retail Web site.”
