There’s still plenty of time to snag a free ice cream cone today at a participating Ben & Jerry’s store.

Tuesday, April 3, is officially Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s. From noon through 8 p.m., participating local Ben & Jerry’s shops around the country are scooping out one free cone per customer, in any flavor that hasn’t yet sold out.

Free Cone Day is an annual event hosted by the Vermont-based ice cream maker known for mashed-up flavors such as Chubby Hubby (Fudge Covered Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels in Vanilla Malt Ice Cream Rippled with Fudge & Peanut Butter) and Cherry Garcia (Cherry Ice Cream with Cherries & Fudge Flakes). Ben & Jerry’s shops have grown accustomed to the annual onslaught of customers drawn to rare occurrence of totally free ice cream.

How much ice cream is given away? A shop in Houston expects about 10,000 customers to show up today, eating a total of 350 to 375 gallons of free ice cream. That’s just one shop, mind you.
