Alison Rogers likes real estate, writing and cookies, not necessarily in that order. Her memoir of her first year in real estate, Diary of a Real Estate Rookie, was called "beach-read fun" (yes, really!) by the New York Observer. A summa cum laude graduate of Harvard, she lives in Manhattan, where she owns a co-op and a condo. Rogers, the founding editor of the New York Post's real estate section, works as an agent for the boutique firm DG Neary Realty and is a proud member of the Real Estate Board of New York.

April housing numbers released by the National Association of Realtors were, wait for it … good. Spring is traditionally a busy season for home sales, but the real estate market has been in such a slump for the past couple of years that “ordinary” good news comes as something of a surprise.

According to data released today by the Federal Housing Finance Agency, prices in February were up 0.4% compared to a year ago, marking a pronounced turn in the market. Housing Prices Dip for the Fourth Time in Three Years

After the Great Recession, there were some pundits who theorized that real estate would make a W-shaped recovery. With the S&P/Case-Shiller housing prices out this morning, it’s now clear that there are not one but two W’s in the chart — and that’s not a good thing. Index prices fell 1.1% from November to December. In other words, we’ve [...]

No Bottoming Out for Real Estate Market as Home Values Keep Falling

If you’re watching the real estate markets, the good news is that the Federal Reserve has pledged to keep interest rates low through 2014. The bad news is that the market is going to need it. The November Case-Shiller housing numbers, released this morning, indicate that prices tumbled 3.7% from the year before. That’s below expectations of [...]
